As Director of Advanced Instrumentation Systems at MSI, Mr. Platt conducts and oversees a wide range of computer modeling and simulation work, as well as MSI’s advanced turbine sensor NSMS (Non-contacting Stress Measurement System) efforts. He is currently the Principal Investigator on several U.S. Navy and NASA funded programs to develop methods for high speed continuous blade health monitoring for turbine engines. He is also involved in gas turbine engine and liquid rocket propulsion projects related to blade and disk dynamics, health monitoring and prognostics, finite element modeling and analysis, and software development for data reduction and analysis. Mr. Platt has lectured on analytical and experimental stress and vibration topics at graduate-level turbomachinery courses around the world. Prior to joining MSI he worked at Concepts NREC, in both the Engineering and Software Groups, and was the Director of Blade Design and Structural Software Development, and a Corporate Fellow. Mr. Platt has led numerous turbomachinery development and evaluation projects. As a Software Architect, he has managed, designed, and implemented many software solutions for blade design, structural analysis, life calculations, rotordynamics, and bearing and seal design. In prior positions at Textron Lycoming (now part of Honeywell), Mr. Platt used analytical and experimental techniques for stress, vibration, and fatigue R&D in gas turbine engines. He holds a BA in Physics from Colgate University and an MSME from Lehigh University.
