Paul A. Boyadjis Manager
of Turbomachinery Analysis
Mr. Boyadjis has a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University where he graduated summa cum laude. He has over 18 years of diverse experience in the
analysis and design of rotating equipment. His specialty includes complex 3D solids modeling (expert user of Pro/Engineer) of pump and compressor casings for stress and vibration analysis
using advanced finite element techniques. He has worked as a lead analytical engineer for major compressor and pump manufacturers such as Ingersoll-Rand, Ingersoll-Dresser Pump, and
Flowserve Corporation.
He introduced solids modeling and advanced finite element analysis capability to the Government Marine Business unit of Ingersoll-Rand. While there, he pioneered
many design analysis methodologies involving main and auxiliary seawater pumps for nuclear submarines. He then transferred these analytical capabilities to the Research and
Development group of Ingersoll-Dresser Pump and later Flowserve. He has extensive experience in performing stress, vibration, fatigue, rotor dynamics and heat transfer analysis on many
various components such as pump and compressor casings, bedplates, impellers, bearing housings, and shafts. While with the R&D group, he perfected methods of finite element
vibration analysis of vertical pumps which greatly reduced warranty claims. He also developed methods for predicting deflection and stresses of helically swept shafts of screw pumps.
In addition, Mr. Boyadjis has extensive experience in computer analysis and destructive failure testing of non-metallic components such as GRP casings, magnetic drive PEEK containment
shells, and Ryton impellers. He was responsible for training engineers at his previous companies in the art of solids modeling and finite element analysis all across the USA and Europe.
While with MSI, Mr. Boyadjis has conducted detailed 3D finite element analysis of prematurely failed casings and impellers providing design enhancements for our
customers. He has also brought new insights to the modeling of vertical pumps, and this coupled with MSI's expert field vibration testing capability makes MSI an unquestioned
leader in the vibration analysis of these types of pumps. He continues to expand on his analysis techniques to provide customers with the best vibration and stress prediction capabilities possible.
