Maki M. Onari Manager of
Turbomachinery Testing
Mr. Onari is a mechanical engineer with more that eight years of diverse experience in PDVSA El Tablazo, one of the
most important petrochemical complexes in Venezuela. At PDVSA, he performed analysis, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and failure studies
on a wide variety of rotating machines, combining data on their dynamic conditions, tribological information, and process operating data in
order to develop fundamental understanding and solutions to mechanical problems. As part of these efforts, he acquired significant test
stand and field testing experience, as well as involvement in machinery specification, vendor selection/coordination, witness acceptance tests,
and machinery commissioning.
Mr. Onari has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Zulia University in Venezuela. By working as a mechanic during the
time that he was pursuing his engineering degree, Mr. Onari became very experienced in the assembly, disassembly, installation, and
maintenance of large equipment such as steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal compressors, pumps, generators, motors, centrifugal dryers,
and fans. He has been through extensive training programs in the operation and maintenance of many types of equipment of specific manufacturers,
including Solar Gas Turbines, Geon PVC Plants, Hitachi AOTS, Entek IRD Vibration Equipment, John Crane Mechanical Seals, and Bently Nevada
Balance and Alignment Equipment and Software.
During his years at MSI, Mr. Onari has become proficient with all MSI analysis and testing tools. He has performed as well as
supervised a wide variety of finite element analysis projects, and currently performs or supervises all MSI site testing projects of rotating machinery
being field-qualified or misbehaving in the field. He has written various magazine articles on these efforts, and has lectured at the Texas A&M Symposia.
In addition to English, Mr. Onari is fluent in both Spanish and Japanese.
