James P. Netzel Senior Consulting Engineer
Mr. Netzel is a graduate mechanical engineer from the University of Illinois. He has more than forty years of experience in the
design, application and troubleshooting mechanical seals and sealing systems for rotating equipment. This experience includes
twenty years of service as chief engineer for John Crane Inc. His project work has included all types of seals for liquid as
well as gas applications for pumps, compressors and pressure vessels.
Jim's professional accomplishments include five patents in seal technology. Publications include chapters
for the Pump Handbook, Centrifugal Pump Handbook, and Compressor Handbook, and numerous presentations and technical papers
published through the International Pump Symposium, STLE, ASME, BHRA, AISE, SAE and various trade publications. His primary
professional focus has been on improving equipment reliability.
Jim is a Fellow of the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE), and a past member of the Board
of Directors of STLE. Jim is past chairman of the ASME/STLE International Tribology Conference, and past chairman of the
Seals Technical Committee for STLE. He is a long time member editorial advisory board for three trade publications, including
Pumps & Systems magazine.
